If you visit Progressive Countertop on a Saturday, you may see Danielle Heath helping clients and staff. She has really impressed everyone with her professionalism and her design skills! Danielle was nominated as one of 10 finalists for the 2017 Student Kitchen Design Competition sponsored by the Ontario Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association.
The competition “recognizes the talents of the aspiring designers to plan safe, functional and personalized spaces that incorporate imaginative designs and aesthetically pleasing solutions.”
Danielle, a student of the Interior Design Program at Fanshawe College, shares her choices and her challenges that helped her entry become one of the top 10 for this year’s competition.
All the students who entered the competition were presented with a fictitious family and their day-to-day lifestyle. Danielle had to design a kitchen for a couple with college-age children who will be transitioning to some years on their own and then to hosting larger groups such as extended family and grandchildren.
“I chose Weybourne™ by Cambria® Quartz to flow throughout the kitchen. Weybourne is a design from the Marble Collection featuring soft grays and whites. Cambria countertops are also very durable because they don’t require any sealing and are non porous.
I added cabinetry painted in decorator’s white by Benjamin Moore to create a light and spacious feel. For the home owner’s lovely teapots and collectibles to be displayed I added two 72” display cabinets finished in a walnut stain, positioned on either side of the gas cook top. The island is also finished in a walnut stain as I wanted this to be a statement piece in the kitchen.”
