REMNANT EVENT

JUNE & JULY

A lot goes into making a house a home. But this design story has something special – The London Home Builders’ Association Green Home Build rallied a team of trusted suppliers who came together to build a net-zero home in support of Kids Kicking Cancer Canada. (Sponsored and project managed by Sifton Properties Limited, and over 60 suppliers donated products and services!) Progressive Countertop loved being a part of this important community project and partnered with Cambria to provide beautiful quartz surfaces throughout the new home. Let us walk you through some of the countertop design and installation details from Sifton Designer, Gabi Brown.

Lights, Camera, TEXTURE!

Introducing Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ by Cambria

From Cambria’s Alloy Collection, Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ features metallic brass veining with delicate grey accents on a sleek white background. What makes this design stand out is the slightly raised, brass-like alloy veins you can literally feel as you move your hand over the quartz surface. “Oh my gosh, you need to see it in person in the house; the texture that comes through on the matte finish is just beautiful,” says Sifton Designer, Gabi Brown. “Whether it’s natural daylight, or the light fixtures overhead, it reflects light in different ways as you walk around it.” The island also captures the eye with its modern waterfall cut , meaning the quartz is carried down the sides of the cabinets to the floor for added visual interest. To complete the look, Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ was also continued up the backsplash for seamless visual impact!

Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ by Cambria wraps the whole kitchen for a beautiful, seamless look. Featured on the kitchen island, exterior countertops and backsplash.

Layered, Complimentary Design

Cambria’s Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ beautifully complements other design elements in the kitchen like the soft reeded-glass texture on the oversized stove hood. This texture, often referred as Tambour’, is also featured on the island base. Other metallic elements in the kitchen include a brushed-gold Moen faucet and matching cabinet hardware, as well as deep bronze-black lighting fixtures. A mirror with antique-looking trim has been placed at the one end of the island which beautifully reflects the modern quartz surface. “Basically, Berkshire Brass [Satin Ridge] wraps the whole kitchen but it’s very subtle. There’s nothing shy about it but it’s not screaming at you. That was something we were really cognizant of when selecting the countertops for the home. We wanted beautiful textures and modern elements but we also wanted a bit of an old world vintage feel to the home.”

The striking brass/gold veins in Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™ capture your attention immediately in this kitchen design. Your eyes are then drawn to other spectacular features like the hood range and gold faucet.

Old World-Style Butler Pantry Meets Modern Quartz

This beautiful European-Style Pantry features Charlestown™ quartz countertops by Cambria. Charlestown is a warm brown-black surface with very subtle white and charcoal veining. Old World-meets modern convenience and style!

Featuring Charlestown™ by Cambria

Step back in time into an old-world, European-style pantry with all the modern conveniences of the 20th century, including quartz countertops: gorgeous, maintenance-free and easy-to-clean! This design is called Charlestown™, a warm brown-black surface with very subtle veining. “We paired this smooth, quiet quartz design with gorgeous porcelain from Centura on the walls, which has lots of texture, like an aggregate stone coming through. The countertop’s matte finish pairs beautifully with the rich, dark green millwork and dark maple cabinets. Charlestown™ really makes for a stunning combination – We were going for a really moody, rich European pantry feel as you walk in.”

From Kitchen to Bath

Charlestown™ by Cambria quartz was also installed in the main floor powder room. The dark and deep quartz countertop surface has subtle white and charcoal veins, meandering throughout: “Nothing too busy- the design is quiet and moody, “ says Gabi. “We wanted the countertop to complement the porcelain floor and wall tiles, as well as the textured tambour-style finish on the vanity wall.”

The master ensuite features Cambria’s Notting Hill™, a light, warm and welcoming quartz design. The clean white base is accented with warm burgundy veins throughout.

Introducing Cambria’s Notting Hill™, a warm and welcoming quartz design perfectly suited for this bathroom ensuite. The clean white base is accented with warm and beautiful burgundy veins throughout. A 10-inch splash up the vanity wall sets off the wall-mounted faucets and mirror above.

“We carried a 10-inch splash up the vanity wall because we used wall mount faucets. The quartz really sets off the faucets and the mirror above. Not going with a typical 4-inch splash, the 10-inch splash really draws your eye to the countertop,” says Gabi. The ensuite is quite the spa-like setup with beautiful archways that lead you into the vanity, toilet and massive porcelain shower. Notting Hill™ was the perfect mix of warmth and style in a quartz surface to bring the bathroom spaces together.

Last but not least,

Cambria’s Foggy City™ finished off the main bath, laundry and basement bathroom countertops. This design features a soft, cloudy white base with delicate white and translucent dots – the look of textured clouds! The light, airy colour palette creates a serene and harmonious feel.

Nature-Inspired Design

The Green Home Build appropriately backs onto a wooded lot. When asked about design inspiration Gabi says, “Right off the open kitchen in the great room, there’s a two-story window that connects you to the outdoor elements. So, nature is what led the design. We loved the natural feel and texture of the quartz surfaces like Cambria’s Berkshire Brass Satin Ridge™. All of the countertop designs are subtle and work well with the textures and elements in the home.” Plus, when considering products for a Green Home, the carbon footprint of the home and its products was key.

“Having Progressive Countertop right down the road for local fabrication and installation was great, ” says Gabi. “Installation was done in such a seamless fashion. Honestly, we couldn’t have a better partnership than working with the team at Progressive. They make it a point of knowing and being aware of a project’s specific needs – whether it’s the product, timing, or a certain finish and detail, they are right in tune with you, and there with you, from start to finish.”

Dream Team

“This Green Home Build was easy and fun – for everyone – the minute it was mentioned this project is tied to Kids Kicking Cancer Canada, everyone was in. It was never a chore. You could tell Progressive’s installers enjoyed what they were doing. We were there every day in the home stretch and it was like Christmas morning to see the beautiful countertops–they add the finishing touch. The countertop selection in my mind is one of the most important pieces when it comes to the visual aspect,” explains Gabi Brown

Brooke Allen, Sr. Market Representative for Cambria, agrees. “Gabi’s got such a great eye and knows how to showcase our products beautifully. We’ve worked with Sifton for many years. And Progressive Countertop has been a long-time partner and a really great fabricator for us. This project had it all: a great builder and a great cause supporting Kids Kicking Cancer Canada. Cambria was happy to be a part of this!” Cambria donated the quartz slabs and Progressive Countertop donated the cost of fabrication, templating and installation.
