Sandra & Tony’s Design Story

Celebrate the Love at Home šŸ

A Kitchen Reno Milestone, featuring Canadian-Made HanStone Quartz

Strathroy, ON – Every year, Sandra and her husband Tony celebrate their wedding anniversary on July 1st. For this ā€œCanada Dayā€ couple it just seems appropriate that they would undergo a beautiful main-floor kitchen renovation featuring Canadian-made quartz countertops.Ā

Their goal? Upgrade, update and ā€˜future-proof’ their forever home.

Choosing the quartz countertop Calacatta Extra by HanStone is not only a design decision; It is a choice to support Canadian-made quality. ā€œPaul [Sales Manager, Progressive Countertop] told us it was made locally in London, and of course, everyone wants to buy Canadian,ā€ shares Sandra . ā€œThat definitely factored into our decision.ā€

BEFORE

AFTER

From Dark Granite to Light Quartz

When Sandra and Tony bought their home, the kitchen had black granite countertops and a two-tier breakfast bar. ā€œWe wanted something brighter and more modern,ā€ she explains. Progressive Countertop helped reimagine the layout, and the raised breakfast bar was replaced with a spacious, single-level countertop, finished with Hanstone’s Calacatta Extra.

The standout detail – The waterfall edge. ā€œThe waterfall is my favourite part,ā€ Sandra says. ā€œIt makes the area look bigger. Plus, I have more prep space now that the counter is all one level. It makes the kitchen feel more open; It’s where we all gather now.ā€

Why Calacatta Extra?

HanStone’s Calacatta Extra is an elegant design offering dramatic, marble-inspired veining on a crisp white background. The intricate taupe and grey veining creates an authentic stone appearance that compliments a wide range of design materials, from light to dark flooring and cabinetry. Crafted in London, Ontario, this quartz combines both beauty and performance.

Bringing Design to the Surface

This countertop retrofit is the perfect example of how a new stone surface can refresh and pull together a room. This versatile quartz surface pairs well with the couple’s new LVP flooring and gives new life to the textured cream subway tile backsplash and original dark brown cupboards.

Beyond the visual appeal, HansStone’s Calacatta Extra delivers on function, too. As a non-porous surface, quartz resists staining and is easy to clean with soap and water.

ā€œIt’s easy to take care of,ā€ says Sandra. ā€œAnd I learned that quartz is non-porous. Our old granite countertop in the bathroom was very heat tolerant but water would pool under the soap dispenser and leave stains over time. With quartz, you don’t have that.ā€

Built for Forever

The renovation didn’t stop at the kitchen. The couple updated the entire main floor, including new luxury vinyl plank flooring, as well as additions to the main floor bathroom. They replaced the vanity with a quartz remnant also from HanStone called Tahitian Cream, found in Progressive Countertop’s Strathroy warehouse.Ā

ā€œWe paired it with our dark cherry cabinets and upgraded to a modern square sink,ā€ Sandra says. ā€œIt was a small change that made a big difference.ā€Ā

Besides the countertops installed by Progressive’s professional team, much of the main floor reno was DIY. ā€œMy husband did all the flooring and painting after work hours. It took some time but the reno was part of a broader plan to stay in the home long-term. We also added a shower to the main floor bath just in case stairs ever become an issue later on,ā€ she says. ā€œWe’re designing ā€œfor usā€ now. This is our forever home.ā€

Professional Installation

Home renovations can be stressful. Progressive Countertop prides itself on making the installation process easy. Sandra says, ā€œWe had different crews for the removal and for the installation and both teams were great. Very mindful and respectful –Ā  right down to taking their shoes off when they came in. You can tell they are professional, by the way they work togetherā€.

A Bright New Chapter

The transformation of Sandra and Tony’s kitchen goes beyond aesthetics. It’s where they gather, celebrate, and share their lives. ā€œWe walk in here now and say, ā€˜Why did we wait so long to do this?ā€™ā€ Sandra laughs.Ā

For a family marking milestones and embracing life together, the idea of ā€œforever homeā€ is a comforting feeling. And thoughtful design can help bring it to the surface.Ā Ā

July 1st – Happy Anniversary Sandra & Tony! Enjoy your forever kitchen. šŸ’—

And, Happy Canada Day!Ā  Progressive Countertop is a proud Canadian-run company, offering Canadian products. šŸ

Supporting Local Matters

Sandra and Tony had heard about other countertop suppliers in the region, but for them, supporting local matters. ā€œEven during COVID, we made a point of supporting local Strathroy businesses.ā€Ā

Their experience with Progressive Countertop in Strathroy reinforced that decision. ā€œEveryone was fantastic,ā€ says Sandra. ā€œBrittany in administration came out to take photos before we started. She’s a sweetheart! So welcoming as the first face you see when you walk in [at Progressive’s Strathroy location]. Paul, the Sales Manager, was so knowledgeable and guided us through the products and the design; and Holly in the finance department made everything so easy. From design, to templating, to installation – every team member was professional, respectful and really cared.ā€
